Want Every Issue of LIFE from 1935-1970? Wish Granted.
Holy Awesome-Internet-thing, Batman!
Google’s informal corporate motto (that, being a business, it doesn’t always quite live up to) is Don’t Be Evil. They try to do and fund things that they don’t have to that are cool and awesome, if not necessarily immediately able to be monetized. One of these things is the scanning and indexing of every issue of LIFE Magazine from 1935 through to 1970.
Not only is it an amazing time-capsule for things like the BATMAN issue above (which features a photo-laden article on a Batcave/Wayne Manor themed Go-Go dance club that is pretty much what I would think Heaven should look like) , but it also provides a window back to a time when print-ad design and copy was a dedicated artform. If you’;re a fan of AMC’s MAD MEN, you can get lost for a bunch of hours just perusing the full-page ad layouts of the 1960s and see how they evolve.
Here, check it out. There’s really no reason to ever be bored when you’ve got a high-speed internet connection.
